Yumi Zouma have proven in a very short time that they understand how to create a quietly catchy anthem. Like their best efforts, such as “The Brae” and “Barricade [Matter of Fact]”, “In Camera” is delightfully wispy. Every time you hear it, you’ll want to bask in its soft sunshine.
The band’s work is characterised by plinking guitar riffs and light-as-air drums. “In Camera” sticks very close to that formula. Lead singer Christie Simpson’s vocals hover just above the production, singing of a relationship gone south. It’s another understated success for the New Zealand-born band.
Yumi Zouma’s EP III comes out September 27.
